Pride 2021 – #powHer
#PowHer celebrates HERstory
Pride During COVID-19
In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic continued to plague the world, with Trinidad and Tobago experiencing its worst surge of cases and deaths that year. PrideTT carried out its virtual and hybrid programming for the 2nd year in a row with resounding success. A month of online streams were planned, serving panel discussions around LGBTQIA+ issues and activism, as well as a virtual film festival, games night and youth forum.

The Power of #powHer
PrideTT recognized the poignant issue surrounding the safety of women in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the need to amplify and celebrate the voices of women and the contributions they have made on the front lines of civil rights advocacy and activism throughout the years. The theme of #powHer was launched to recognize these issues, as protests took place across the country advocating for the safety of women; in the wake of the deaths of 3 women.
The board described the theme in the following excerpt “#PowHer celebrates our HERstory – the experiences, strength and struggle of the women that helped build our community and sustain the movement. It is a call to action for us all to leverage the pride inside of us, as well as the platform of PrideTT to build financial, political and mental empowerment - with necessary focus on our womxn folk!”
