My name is Terri Singh. I’m 21 years old, my pronouns are she/they and I identify as Queer. My alias on the internet is Ultra.Tetra. The name is based off of my nickname, Tetris. I’m an admin of Trans and NBTT, an activist group from Trinidad and Tobago that’s active on Instagram and Facebook. I spend a lot of time online as an activist, working with my fellow admins at Trans.and.NBTT to create posts that aim to educate both LGBTQ+ and Non-LGBTQ+ folks about various aspects of our community. I also spend a lot of my free time making art that I share online. Beside art and activism, I also enjoy other hobbies such as exercising, reading, watching cartoons/anime, travelling and learning how to cook.

Artist’s Statement

What I try to do with my art is show a lot of queer representation. I feel like one of the biggest reasons why queerphobia is so rampant in the world is because there’s not enough LGBTQ+ inclusive education and representation in the media.

Because of this, people’s knowledge of our community is often limited to outdated religious myths, poorly-written jokes and propaganda from anti-LGBTQ+ hate groups and fake news. Even though representation has improved a lot over the years, we still have a long way to go in terms of making sure that it becomes commonplace across the globe. Many countries still see representation of our community as taboo. Anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda is as widespread as ever. Not all members of the community are well-represented in the media.

I try to making my art as explicitly queer as possible in an attempt to provide people with queer representation. I depict openly-queer characters who get into relationships with each other. I draw them defying the “cis-tems” of the fictional, post-apocalyptic worlds that they live in. I draw a lot of NSFW art, depicting queer folks who are comfortable with their identities and sexual expression. I also try to make art to present groups in the community who don’t have as much representation as yet, such as aromantics, asexuals, pansexuals, NB folks and more. As an art activist, I want to help LGBTQ+ folks know that their identities are beautiful and that they aren’t horrible people for being who they are.
